Every June, National Reunification Month gives us the opportunity to recognize the efforts of families who overcome challenges, and the advocates, service providers, and child welfare professionals who help make family reunification possible.
At CASA of the 18th JDC, we believe that children do best when they can safely remain with, or return to, their families. Reunification is always considered the first and best outcome—when it’s in the child’s best interest. CASA volunteers play a vital role in supporting this goal by ensuring that the child’s needs and voice remain central to every decision.
In 2024, 881 children served by CASA in Louisiana were reunified with their biological families. These reunifications represent not just numbers, but real stories of resilience, healing, and hope. With guidance from CASA volunteers, many families are able to access the support they need to create safe, nurturing environments for their children to return home.
However, we also recognize that reunification is not always possible. In those cases, CASA volunteers continue to advocate for the best possible permanent outcome—whether through adoption, guardianship, or independent living. Regardless of the path, CASA volunteers are committed to walking alongside each child, ensuring they are supported and never alone.
This Reunification Month, we honor the strength of families who work hard to reunify. We also celebrate the CASA volunteers whose compassion, dedication, and advocacy help make safe reunification possible. If you're looking for a way to make a lasting difference, consider becoming a CASA volunteer. Together, we can help more families heal—and more children find their way home.
