Speaking Up for Abused and Neglected Youth
At CASA of the 18th JDC, we believe that every child deserves a safe and nurturing environment to grow and thrive. Our CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) program is dedicated to making this belief a reality for children in our community. We are a passionate and committed group of volunteers, professionals, and community members who advocate for the best interests of children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. Our CASA volunteers advocate for foster youth in Iberville, Pointe Coupee, and West Baton Rouge Parish.
Mission
CASA of the 18th JDC is to support and promote court-appointed volunteer advocacy so every child who has experienced abuse or neglect can be safe, have a permanent home, and the opportunity to thrive.
Vision
Our vision is a world where every child in need is given the opportunity to thrive in a safe, nurturing, and loving home with a promising future.
Our Work
CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to advocate for children’s best interests. They stay with each case until it is closed and the child is in a safe, permanent home. Our volunteers are independent voices who thoroughly investigate each child's unique circumstances and make recommendations to the court based on their best interests. Volunteers work with legal and child welfare professionals, educators and service providers to ensure that judges have all the information they need to make the most well-informed decisions for each child. Our goal is to provide stability and support during a challenging time in these children's lives.
Our Values
Through compassion, we value children, protecting their rights and celebrating success.
Through selfless service, we value building relationships with local programs, courts, volunteers, and policy makers.
Through expertise, we acknowledge best practices and promote equality, justice, and growth.
Through integrity, we are consistent, reliable, honest, and transparent.
Through diversity, we value equity and inclusion.
