National Foster Care Month: Supporting Children, Strengthening Futures
- May 14
- 2 min read

May is recognized nationally as Foster Care Month, a time to raise awareness about the experiences of children and youth in foster care while recognizing the individuals, families, and organizations working to support them. It is also an opportunity to highlight the importance of advocacy, connection, and community involvement in helping children thrive.
At CASA of the 18th JDC, we are proud to stand alongside communities across Louisiana and the nation in recognizing National Foster Care Month and reaffirming our commitment to advocating for children who have experienced abuse or neglect. Through the work of Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers, children in foster care have a dedicated advocate focused on ensuring their voices are heard and their best interests remain the priority.
Children and youth in foster care often face uncertainty, instability, and significant life challenges. Positive adult relationships and strong community support can make a lasting impact during these critical moments. CASA volunteers help provide consistency, encouragement, and advocacy while working toward safe, permanent outcomes for the children they serve.
How You Can Get Involved
Become a CASA Volunteer
CASA volunteers are trained community members who advocate for children involved in the foster care system. Our volunteers work closely with children, families, attorneys, and service providers to help ensure children’s needs are being met and their voices are represented in court. Learn more about becoming a CASA volunteer and how you can help make a difference in the life of a child.

This National Foster Care Month, we encourage our community to come together in support of children and youth in foster care. By advocating, volunteering, donating, and raising awareness, we can help create brighter futures and stronger outcomes for children in need.
