CASA of the 18th JDC has launched its volunteer application, seeking volunteers from across Iberville, Pointe Coupee and West Baton Rouge.
There are an estimated 85-100 children in foster care across the three parishes who may need a CASA. Across the country, nearly 700,000 children experience abuse or neglect each year. Instead of playing with neighbors and making happy family memories, they’re attending court hearings, adjusting to new foster homes and transitioning to new schools. That’s a heavy burden for a child to carry.
With a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer dedicated to their case, our community's most vulnerable children will have someone speaking up for their best interests. With your support, more children will have the opportunity to thrive in a safe and loving home.
Since naming the organization’s executive director in late September, the organization has received nearly 50 volunteer inquiries.
“I am extremely grateful for the overwhelming support from individuals across our communities who have stepped up to inquire about volunteering as well as other ways to support CASA,” stated Kendall Hebert, executive director. “After months of training and organizational set-up, we are ready to take applications for volunteers and to soon serve children in need.”
Volunteers attend in-service training and courtroom observation before their appointment and assignment by a local judge to help abused and neglected children reach safe homes with forever families.
