November is National Adoption Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness of the urgent need for safe, loving, and permanent homes for children in foster care. CASA of the 18th JDC joins communities nationwide in recognizing the vital role that CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteers play in supporting children through their journey to permanency.
On average, there are 85-100 children in foster care across the organization’s 3-parish service area, with many awaiting reunification with their families or finding adoptive homes. CASA volunteers are specially trained to advocate for the best interests of these children, often becoming a consistent, supportive presence in their lives. Through advocacy and dedicated support, CASA volunteers work closely with the courts to help children find safe and permanent homes.
“Every child deserves a safe, permanent home, whether that means reunification or adoption. Our CASA volunteers are dedicated to ensuring that every child’s voice is heard and that they have someone looking out for their best interests, especially during times of transition,” stated Kendall Hebert, executive director for the local CASA program.
Throughout National Adoption Month, CASA of the 18th JDC encourages community members to consider becoming a CASA volunteer and making a difference in a child’s life. Training and support are provided to ensure volunteers can effectively advocate for children and help them navigate the path toward a permanent home.
